The Story of the Heart

A long time ago in the mountains
there was a fire
in a little building
next to a two lane road

The volunteer fireman came
chopped a hole in the roof
put in a hose
doused the fire

Upstairs in a dormer
facing the northeast sky
was an object
in the shape of a heart

Smoke had blackened
the walls
the heart

After the fire
people came, cleaned
the walls
around the heart

Time passed
As did the owner
A for sale sign appeared
An artist bought

Sometime before the artist
the heart object was removed
Unknown
is its fate

The artist noticed the Heart
at times in passing
he would ponder
the change

What was
Is gone
What is
Is now

Today is reality
Everything before
Was a lesson
